One Glain year is 365.25 days long; much the same as Earth. Glain's moon orbits the planet in 30.417 days, causing 12 lunar cycles to be 0.246 days less than a year. The lunar cycle therefore creeps "backward" one day in 4.07 years. The new year begins at the Vernal (Spring) Equinox, corresponding to (around) March 20-22 on Earth. The 1st of Aries is therefore a holiday. The calendar used consists of 12 months, arranged in repeating groups of 30, 31, and 30 days, giving a total of 364 days. The remaining 1.25 days (1 extra day per year except every fourth year which has 2 extra days) are added to the end as the Festival; all major religions have some sort of special observance on those days. Festival days have no month, nor are they called by weekday names, so that the rest of the calendar can remain static. Note that the Festival immediately precedes the Vernal Equinox holiday. Generally, religious celebrations take place on the last day of the year (Pisces 30), then the one to two day Festival is celebrated, generally with debauchery and drunkeness. Aries 1, the Vernal Equinox, is usually celebrated as a religious feast day, with services starting at noon, which is both symbolic as well as allowing time for hangovers to clear up, garbage to be cleared away, etc. The actual dates of the Solstices and the Autumnal Equinox vary from the dates of their celebration slightly. The Summer Solstice is celebrated on Cancer 1, the Autumnal Equinox on Libra 1, and the Winter Solstice on Capricorn 1. Also note that the Glain calendar has four Friday the 13th's every year.
